If the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. Every believer, at birth into the kingdom of God, automatically inherits his nature. The new birth makes us different from the world of darkness that is around us. Our very nature is changed and we are empowered to radiate the very life of God. God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. If God is light, every child of God is light also. Believers don’t have to fast to become light neither do they need to pray. It is just normal. On the other hand, everyone whose allegiance is with the devil is living in darkness. Darkness is the dwelling of unbeliever. An unbeliever is without God. If God is light, an unbeliever has no light. Since darkness is the absence of light, an unbeliever dwells in darkness.
As believers, we must understand, appreciate and embrace our nature. We are light and we must shine. It is also important to note that the state and nature of everyone who has not submitted to the lordship of Jesus Christ is darkness. The status of every one who has accepted the lordship of Jesus coming to the knowledge of christ.
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are light in the Lord: walk as children of light. Eph. 5:8
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17
We see form the above scripture, believers are light of the world, as everything the world stands for is darkness.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Math. 5:14
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Math. 5:16
It is true that every believer is light. However, how much of the light in us reaches the unbelievers who live in darkness depends on the believer. Shining as light is your responsibility.
Having known that we are light and we have to shine, how then do we shine?. We shine by standing out. We shine by doing exactly what jesus would have done if he was the one in our shoes. In your school, neighbourhood, office and everywhere you find yourself you must do live like jesus no matter how many people are not doing the same thing. You shine by projecting the lifestyle of jesus. It is so simple to shine. Just do what he would have done. Shining as light is the will of God. It is your responsibility. You must not fail.
